Love Is Not Linear

Love is not linear.

It doesn’t follow a straight or narrow path.
It flows. It consumes. It ignites passion, hope, inspiration, dreams.
Dreams become goals.
Goals become action items.

Action items become reality—and all of a sudden,
you’re living a life you love.
In love with yourself.
With the world around you.
And when you embody that kind of love—you want to give.
Give hope.
Give inspiration.
Help others find the joy you wake up with every day,
after being trapped-in years of darkness.
Love is not linear.

I had to go inside.
To follow the corkscrew persistently deep.
I’ve apologized—
to my son,
to strangers,
to family—when I lost control
in the chaos that was my life and reacted in ways that weren’t my best self.
I don’t call myself crazy anymore.
Because I no longer believe that narrative.

I’ve experienced an extreme amount of trauma.
My mind and body have been stuck in fight or flight since I was two years old—
when I was nearly killed  by the family dog.

Growing up—and into adulthood—
love was earned.
Work before play.
Perform before affection.
Obey for acceptance.
Enjoying life? Giving love?  Receiving it in return?
Being allowed to simply be—
without reprimand or judgment—was conditional.

The “if-then” model of love no longer works
in our evolved world.

Love is the most powerful motivator.
But society has taught us to use it as a tool of control—to receive within reason.
To survive.    But we’ve evolved.
We’re no longer just surviving bears or famine.
Disease is mostly curable or semi-avoidable.

Now —  we’re surviving the projections of unhealed egos.
A capitalist society that creates fake meat with unknown consequences—
because it’s more profitable than building sustainable resources that support modern life.

It’s an ego-driven world.  And that—that’s what needs to change.
